International Day

On Saturday, 7th November ISF celebrated its 13th International Day with Focus Countries Austria/Germany, Mexico, Palestine, Spain and South Korean. Palestine was participating as a Focus Country for the first time. At the traditional flag ceremony, students from Grade 6 and above represented the 54 nations at ISF.
Palestine opened the performances on the stage with “dabkah”, a traditional dance. This was followed by Germany with ISF primary school students who performed as dancing Lipizzaner horses to the Annen Polka from Johann Strauss. For Mexico one of our parents who is a semi-professional dancer gave us a brilliant rendition of various Mexican dances including salsa and bachata. For Korea, ISF students performed an exquisite fan dance followed by a performance from our very enthusiastic Korean drummers, who brought the house down. One of the highlights on the stage was the professional Flamenco dancer from Spain with her castinets and traditional costume.
The Focus Country rooms were beautifully decorated with posters and flags, and were visited by eager ISF students, complete with passports to be stamped. Parents and students were on hand to supply information on their country and culture.
On the sports front students tried out basketball (Austria/Germany), walking (Mexico), soccer (Spain) and board games (South Korea). One of the biggest attractions this year was the Jungle Track obstacle course which left many students ready for some welcome refreshments in the cafeteria. Sodexo provided sausages and chips, Korean spring rolls, tortilla wraps, paella and chickpea salad. This year again Parent Network sold a wide range of delicious home-made cakes.

Students returned to the theatre for the tombola, eagerly waiting to win prizes from our sponsors such as cinema tickets, Opel zoo tickets, lego, basketball tickets and vouchers for the Main Taunus shopping centre (MTZ). All students were given complimentary PE bags from the Marketing Department.

We would like to thank everyone who helped contribute to another successful International Day, in particular Parent Network, SLO®, Sodexo, ISF staff and teachers, and of course our sponsors.
